Bitesize Prediction: Faroe Islands vs Poland – 12/10/23

Competition: European Championship qualifiers

Market: Poland win

Odds: 4/11 @ Pribet

Facing what is a must-win showdown on Thursday night, Poland will travel to Torshavn when they meet the Faroe Islands.

Starting with the hosts, while the Faroe Islands might have opened up their European Championship qualifying adventure with a 1-1 draw away at Moldova on March 24th, it appears that was nothing more than a minor boost for Hakan Ericson’s downbeat squad. Always knowing that they needed a minor miracle in their bid to find a famous route out of Group E, the Whites sit rock-bottom of the table and facing a heavyweight challenge on Thursday night. Last seen putting in a toothless performance as they signed off September’s international break with a 1-0 defeat at home against Moldova, the Faroe Islands have lost each of their last five straight Group E appearances. With their extended issues highlighted by a 3-0 drumming at home against the Czech Republic back on June 17th, Ericson’s men have also bagged just a single strike on that five-match losing run. Likewise, suffering a routine 2-0 loss when they last met Poland back on September 7th, the Faroe Islands face a major uphill struggle here.

As for the visitors, while Poland might have opened up their European Championship qualifying adventure tipped as a leading contender to find a route out of Group E, the Eagles have struggled to find any kind of momentum. Last seen signing off September’s international break with a sluggish 2-0 defeat away at Albania, Michal Probierz’s side know that they face a must-win showdown when they arrive in Torshavn on Thursday night. Nevertheless, handed what is a golden opportunity here, Poland will be excited by a stellar record against their Group E rivals. Including that 2-0 win when they welcomed the Faroe Islands to Warsaw last month, the Eagles have won each of their previous three meetings by an aggregate score of 12-0. In need of an essential boost when they mark their return to qualifying duties here, Poland will be calling on their record-breaking attacking superstar to spearhead their charge. Bagging a brace in their reverse meeting a month ago, Robert Lewandowski will certainly have a key role to play here.
