In what could prove to be an enjoyable affair from Yorkshire on Wednesday night, Chesterfield will make the trip to Halifax.
Starting with the hosts, while Halifax might have suffered play-off heartbreak last season, Chris Millington’s men have once again impressed this time around. Despite opening the New Year in the midst of a brief wobble, the Shaymen have certainly come roaring back in an eye-catching fashion. Last seen over the weekend cruising their way to a routine 2-0 victory away at Oxford City, the former Wigan boss has seen his high-flying squad win six of their previous seven National League appearances. Continuing to skyrocket their way up the fifth-tier standings, Halifax should also be excited by their recent success on home soil. Last seen in Yorkshire clinching a 2-1 victory against Boreham Wood, Millington’s side have won all of their previous three contests in front of their own supporters by an aggregate score of 6-3. However, it should be highlighted, the Shaymen have seen all of their last five straight home fixtures finish with both teams getting on the scoresheet.
As for the visitors, while Chesterfield might still hold a remarkable 14-point buffer at the top of the National League table, Paul Cook’s side are seeking some recent stability. Eventually forced to settle for a lively 2-2 stalemate away at Oldham over the weekend, the Spireites have won just a trio of their previous eight appearances – a run that stems back to February 6th. Although the Derbyshire-based outfit might have continued to gain a real reputation for their clinical performances in the final third, the former Wigan boss is hoping that his side can find some welcomed defensive steel. Opening March with a shock 4-1 drumming at the hands of Dorking, Chesterfield have recorded just a pair of clean sheets from any of their last 10 outings. However, claiming an action-packed 3-2 victory when they welcomed Halifax to the SMH Group Stadium for their reverse National League battle, we are expecting another enjoyable affair in midweek.
