Two sides who find themselves scrapping it out at opposite ends of the Segunda table, Almeria will travel to Ferrol on Wednesday evening.
Starting with the hosts, while Ferrol might still find themselves at the heart of a Segunda relegation scrap, Cristobal Parralo’s men do appear to have turned a recent corner over the past month. Despite falling to a 5-1 drumming at the hands of Real Oviedo earlier in the month, the Green Devils claimed an immediate response last weekend. Putting in a season-best display as they stormed their way to a 3-1 romp away at Sporting Gijon, the Coruna-based outfit have lost just one of their previous six appearances across all competitions. With that run stemming back to a 2-0 loss against Eibar on November 16th, Ferrol open the midweek fixtures sat just three points adrift of finding a route out of the drop zone. However, despite looking to secure back-to-back wins for the first time since the middle of October, Wednesday’s hosts have shown some extended issues on home soil. Including a 2-1 defeat against Racing Santander last month, Parralo’s side have recorded just a single win in Coruna so far this season.
As for the visitors, although Almeria might have lost their La Liga status last season, La Union have their sights set on securing an immediate top-flight return. Opening Wednesday’s showdown sat just two points adrift of climbing to the top of the Segunda table, Rubi’s men are enjoying what has become an extended flurry. Tipped as a leading promotion contender this time around, the Andalusia-based outfit are unbeaten in each of their previous 12 straight appearances across all competitions. With that purple patch stemming all the way back to an action-packed 3-2 loss against Real Oviedo on October 13th, Almeria will be looking to make another statement here. Extending on their Copa del Rey adventure earlier in the month as they clinched a 2-1 win away at Cultural Leonesa, Wednesday’s guests have also impressed with their success on the road. Unbeaten in their last seven straight showdowns outside of Andalusia, Rubi’s side have also recorded 35 Segunda goals so far this season.
