Bitesize Prediction: Finland vs Slovenia – 16/06/23

Competition: EURO qualifying

Market: Slovenia double chance

Odds: 8/15 @ Pribet

Looking to make it three qualifying victories on the bounce this weekend, a high-flying Slovenia will travel to Finland on Friday evening.

Starting with the hosts, last seen drawing a line under their nightmare rut as they claimed a gritty 1-0 victory away against Northern Ireland, it is no secret that Finland are seeking some much-needed stability. Opening their qualifying adventure with a routine 3-1 drumming at the hands of Denmark, the Eagle Owls are tipped as a huge underdog pick to clinch a route out of Group H. Mustering just a pair of wins from any of their previous 10 appearances across all competitions – a run that stems back to June 2022 – Markku Kanevra’s side have also gained a reputation for their continued struggles on home soil. Last seen in front of their own supporters on January 12th getting hit with a shock 1-0 defeat against Estonia, Finland have remarkably bagged just a single home victory from their last nine appearances over the past 21 months. Not securing back-to-back wins since October 2020, Kanevra’s men will face another tough test this weekend.

As for the visitors, while Finland might be desperately seeking some stability, Slovenia are riding what has been an eye-catching wave of momentum. Picking up back-to-back Group H victories since opening their European Championships qualifying adventure, Matjaz Kek’s side should find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Gaining a string of plaudits and now winning each of their last four appearances across all competitions, the Whites have also not tasted a single defeat from their previous eight contests – a run that stems back to June 2022. Finding a recent clinical edge in the final third, Slovenia’s extended purple patch is highlighted by a 2-1 win at home against Norway nine months ago. Marking their return to action on Friday evening leading the chase at the top of the Group H table, there is no doubt that a high-flying Slovenia will be looking to make another qualifying statement on foreign soil.
