Looking to extend on what has been an eye-catching purple patch, Flamengo will welcome Coritiba to the Maracanã late on Saturday night.
Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to winning ways with an eye-catching display earlier in the week, Flamengo are enjoying what has been a hugely impressive run of form. Booking a 2-0 victory against Atletico-GO while on Copa do Brasil duties, the Brazilian giants have continued to gain plenty of praise over recent weeks. Managing to prove that their 1-0 loss away at Corinthians on July 10th was just a minor blip, the Urubu have won five of their last six matchups across all formats. Picking up a thumping 7-1 romp against Columbian outfit Tolima in the Copa Libertadores, Head Coach Dorival Júnior has also seen his side really impress on home soil. On a run that stems all the way back to the start of June, Flamengo have won each of their last four showdowns at the Maracanã, racking up a staggering 14 goals on that hometown purple patch.
As for the visitors, managing to mount a second-half comeback at home against Juventude as they managed to snatch a 2-2 draw, Coritiba will be hoping to build off of that rally here. However, with just a single win from any of their last eight Serie B matchups, a run that stems all the way back to May 29th, Head Coach Gustavo Morinigo will know that his side faces a real test late on Saturday night. Opening up this weekend’s fixtures holding just a two-point buffer over the drop zone, the Coxa have also gained a reputation for their rather glaring struggles on the road. Last seen on their travels getting hit with a 3-0 drumming against Internacional, Coritiba have failed to win any of their last eight contests away from the Estádio Couto Pereira, mustering just a pair of points. Given those extended issues on the road, we’re backing a home victory here.
Bet: Flamengo 21/20 to beat Coritiba by 2+ goals in Saturday’s Brazil Serie A showdown @ 888sport
