Hoping to extend their buffer at the top of the Championship table this weekend, Fulham will welcome Blackpool to Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Fulham might have endured a tricky run of form when drawing a close to 2021, the Cottagers have really bounced back since opening the New Year. Putting in an action-packed display last weekend as they grabbed a 3-2 win away at Stoke, Marco Silva has been filled with praise for his side’s recent performances. Tipped as a landslide pick to book an immediate Premier League return this season, the one-time Everton boss finds his side enjoying a five-match winning run across all formats. In fact, including back-to-back 6-2 victories against Birmingham and Bristol City, it should be noted that Fulham have 22 strikes in just their last four Championship outings. In the midst of what has become a remarkable free-scoring run, Silva’s men will be confident of laying down another marker here.
As for the visitors, managing to muster six points from their three Championship matchups since opening 2022, Blackpool now have the feel of a side seeking some stability. Slipping down the table after what was a nightmare run of form between November and December, the Orangers have continued to show some extended problems on the road. Last seen away from Bloomfield Road getting hit with a 2-1 defeat against fourth-tier outfit Hartlepool on FA Cup duties, Neil Critchley’s side have lost each of their last four away fixtures on the spin. While Blackpool might have landed a shock 1-0 win when they welcomed Fulham to Lancashire for their reverse meeting, the one-time Liverpool coach will know that his side face a stern test in west London. Given the recent gulf in class, it is hard to see anything other than a home victory here.
