Competition: Irish Premier Division
Market: Galway win
Odds: 4/6 @ Pribet
Looking to claim a much-welcomed boost on Thursday night, Galway will welcome Drogheda to Eamonn Deacy Park.
Starting with the hosts, while Galway might have suffered back-to-back Premier Division defeats since opening June, the Crusties should still find the mood in their camp at a real high. Although John Caulfield’s men might have only made their top-flight return this season, the former Cork boss has seen his squad gain plenty of praise from across Ireland’s elite. Remarkably opening Thursday’s showdown sat within touching distance of skyrocketing into the European places, Galway will be excited to make a return to home soil here. Last seen at Eamonn Deacy Park collecting an impressive 2-0 victory against former champions Dundalk, Caulfield’s side have gained a reputation for their rugged performances in front of their own supporters. Unbeaten in all of their last four straight battles on home soil, it should also be noted that Thursday’s hosts have not shipped a single strike at Eamonn Deacy Park since way back on June 1st.
As for the visitors, while Drogheda might have clung to their Premier Division status last season, Kevin Doherty’s men are pencilled in as a runaway relegation contender this time around. Opening Thursday’s trip to Galway at the heart of a real top-flight crisis and already eight points adrift of safety, it appears that the Count Loth-based outfit have another real challenge on their hands. Last seen settling for a 0-0 stalemate at home against St. Patricks, the former Shelbourne boss has seen his downbeat squad muster just a pair of points from any of their previous six Premier Division appearances. Opening June with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sligo Rovers, the midweek guests have also continued to show some glaring issues on the road. Including an action-packed 4-2 loss against Waterford last month, it should be noted that Doherty’s men have failed to muster a single Premier Division victory so far this season.
