Competition: Serie A
Market: Fiorentina win
Odds: 5/6 @ BetUS
Looking to extend on their purple patch in midweek, Fiorentina will travel to the Stade Luigi Ferraris when they meet Genoa on Thursday evening.
Starting with the hosts, although Genoa might have sprung a real upset last season as they came within touching distance of snatching a top-half finish, the Griffins have drastically failed to match a similar level this time around. Putting in a nightmare performance last weekend as they fell to a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Lazio, Alberto Gilardino’s side are pencilled in as a leading relegation contender this year. Opening October with a woeful 5-1 defeat away at Atalanta, the Liguria-based outfit are sat two points adrift in the drop zone and facing what should be another tricky challenge here. Watching their Coppa Italia adventure come to an abrupt end on September 25th as they fell to a penalties defeat at home against Serie B outfit Sampdoria, Genoa have collected just a single win from any of their first 10 appearances across all competitions. It should also be noted, already shipping 20 top-flight goals since opening up the new campaign, Gilardino’s camp hold the worst defensive tally among Italy’s elite.
As for the visitors, while Genoa might find themselves at the heart of a domestic crisis, Fiorentina are firing on all cylinders. Last seen laying down what was a major statement of intent as they stormed their way to a 5-1 romp against Roma, it appears that the mood around Tuscany is at a red-hot high. Opening up the midweek fixtures battling it out in the top-four battle, Raffaele Palladino’s side have rightfully received a string of plaudits. Marking their return from October’s international break with a sensational 6-0 victory away at Lecce, the Viola should be confident of extending on their purple patch here. Opening their Europa Conference League adventure by winning their first two group stage appearances by an aggregate score of 6-2, Fiorentina have continued to shine with their free-scoring performances in the final third. It should also be highlighted, along with winning all of their last five matchups across all formats, Palladino’s men have collected 19 points from just their last seven outings.
