Competition: Brazil Serie A

Market: Gremio win

Odds: 4/7 @ BetUS

Two sides who find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the Serie A table, Gremio will welcome Coritiba to the Arena do Gremio on Sunday night.

Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to winning ways following the international break in midweek, Gremio should find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. While Renato Portaluppi’s men might have only made their Serie A return this season, the Immortal Tricolor have continued to gain a string of plaudits from across Brazil’s top-flight. Last seen a few days ago storming their way to a stellar 3-1 romp at home against America MG, the former Flamengo boss has seen his high-flying squad win five of their previous six domestic appearances – a run that stems all the way back to May 17th. With their extended purple patch highlighted by a 3-1 romp against Internacional last month, Gremio have also gained a real reputation for their success on home soil. It should be noted, Sunday’s hosts have won each of their last three home fixtures by an aggregate score of 8-3.

As for the visitors, while Gremio might be in the midst of a remarkable Serie A flurry, Coritiba are in the midst of a top-flight nightmare. Marking their return from the international break with another downbeat display as they slumped to a routine 1-0 loss at home against Internacional, Antonio Carlos Zago’s side are tipped as a landslide relegation contender in 2023. Sat rock-bottom of the table, the Parana-based outfit have remarkably collected just four points from their first 11 Serie A appearances. Already eight points adrift of safety, Sunday’s guests are also still yet to claim a single top-flight victory this season. Knowing that they face a monumental challenge when they travel to the Arena do Gremio on Sunday night, Zago’s men should also be worried by a worrying record against the Tricolor. In fact, Coritiba have won just one of their previous 10 showdowns against the top-four chasers.
