Competition: League Two
Market: Under 3.5 goals
Odds: 4/9 @ BetUS
Two sides battling it out at opposite ends of the League Two table, Wrexham will travel to Blundell Park when they meet Grimsby on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Grimsby might have found themselves at the heart of a major league Two struggle on either side of opening the New Year, David Artell’s men do appear to have found some recent stability. Last seen putting in a gritty performance as they clinched a 1-1 stalemate away at Gillingham, the Mariners are unbeaten in all of their previous six fourth-tier showdowns. With their recent turn in fortunes underlined by a stellar 1-0 victory against MK Dons on March 12th, the former Crewe boss will be desperate to make a real upset here. Enjoying their longest unbeaten run since the end of November, Grimsby should also take some solace from their recent boost on home soil. Securing consecutive 1-0 wins against MK Dons and Forest Green in their last two contests at Blundell Park, Saturday’s hosts could prove to be a rugged challenge. It should also be highlighted, all of Grimsby’s last six appearances have finished with under 2.5 goals.
As for the visitors, while Wrexham might have only made their League Two return this season, the Dragons are enjoying a famous fairytale rise. Continuing on a real fourth-tier romp this season, Phil Parkinson’s men open this weekend’s fixtures leading battling it out in the automatic promotion chase. Receiving a string of plaudits this year, the former Sunderland boss will know the importance of making another statement here. However, last seen getting hit with a 1-0 loss at home against Tranmere, Saturday’s guests do have the feel of a squad seeking some recent stability. Forced to settle for a 0-0 stalemate against Harrogate earlier in the month, Wrexham have collected just a pair of wins from any of their previous seven appearances. With that recent wobble stemming all the way back to a 1-0 victory against Notts County on February 17th, Parkinson’s men have also shown some extended inconsistencies in the final third. Drawing back-to-back blanks, we are backing under 3.5 goals here.
