Competition: Scottish Premiership
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 8/11 @ BetUS
Looking to make up some ground in the top-half chase, Hibernian will travel to Tynecastle on Boxing Day lunchtime as they meet arch-rivals Hearts.
Starting with the hosts, claiming what was an essential boost last weekend as they clinched a 2-1 victory against St. Johnstone, Hearts will be desperate to use that performance as a platform to build on. However, enduring a Europa Conference League nightmare this season and signing off their European adventure with a 2-2 stalemate against Petrocub, the Jambos have recorded just two wins from any of their previous 10 appearances across all competitions. With that extended rut stemming back to a 2-1 win away at St. Johnstone on November 2nd, Neil Critchley’s side are desperately seeking some kind of stability. Battling it out at the foot of the Premiership standings, Hearts should at least take some solace from their recent rugged success on home soil. Opening December with a 1-1 stalemate against Aberdeen, the one-time Liverpool coach has not seen his squad suffer a single defeat at Tynecastle from any of their last four outings. It should also be noted, four of their previous five showdowns in front of their own supporters have finished with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, putting in a dominant display last weekend as they stormed their way to a 3-1 romp away at Aberdeen, Hibernian are enjoying a real flurry. Claiming another 3-1 victory against Ross County earlier in the month, David Gray’s men are now looking to make up some ground in the top-half chase. Meeting their arch-rivals on Boxing Day, the Greens have collected nine points from their previous four Premiership appearances. Likewise, signing off November with a remarkable 3-3 draw against the Dons, Gray’s side have suffered just a single Premiership defeat over the past month. Showing that their 3-0 loss against Celtic on December 7th was just a minor blip, Hibernian will be excited by their recent success in the final third. Including a thumping 3-0 win away at Motherwell last month, Hibs have notched a trio of goals in four of their previous five Premiership appearances. With Gray’s men seeing six of their last eight matchups finish with both teams finding the net, we are expecting a similar outcome.
