Competition: Scottish Premiership
Market: Hearts win
Odds: 4/6 @ 888sport
Looking to mark their return from the festive break with maximum points on home soil, Hearts will host St. Johnstone on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Hearts might have only made their Premiership return last year, the Jambos have continued to impress many across Scotland this season. Last seen heading into the festive break with a 2-1 win against Ross County on home soil, Robbie Neilson’s men suddenly have a shock European finish at the top of their agenda. With the mood in their camp likely to still be at a red-hot high, the Edinburgh-based outfit have won three of their last four top-flight contests. With that sole defeat coming at the hands of defending champions Rangers, Hearts should be smelling a golden chance at Tynecastle Park. Looking to tighten up their spot in the top-three, Neilson’s side will also be boosted by their continued success at home. Including an action-packed 5-2 victory against Dundee United, they have lost just a single matchup in Edinburgh so far this season.
As for the visitors, while Hearts might make their return to action this week riding a real wave, the same cannot be said for a struggling St. Johnstone. Last seen signing off 2021 with a 3-1 defeat at home against Celtic, the Saints find themselves sat rock-bottom of the Premiership table. Tipped as a leading pick to lose their top-flight status this season, Callum Davidson’s men will know that they should face a stern test on Tuesday night. In fact, it should also be noted that the Perth-based outfit have lost each of their last eight straight outings, a run that stems all the way back to a 0-0 stalemate against St. Mirren on November 6th. Given the huge gulf in class prior to the festive break, we’re backing what should be a routine night’s work at Tynecastle for the European hopefuls.
