Competition: NPL Victoria
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 4/6 @ BetUS
In what could prove to be an action-packed affair on Friday morning, title contenders South Melbourne will travel to Heidelberg.
Starting with the hosts, while Heidelberg might have claimed a welcomed boost when opening June, George Katsakis’ men certainly came crashing back down to earth last weekend. Putting in a nightmare display at top-six contenders Oakleigh as they slumped to a 5-1 drumming at the Jack Edwards Reserve, the Warriors have bagged just a trio of wins from their last 11 NPL Victoria appearances – a run that stems back to a 3-1 victory against Bentleigh on March 24th. With their struggles highlighted by an infamous 8-2 loss at the hands of Avondale two months ago, Heidelberg will undeniably be glad to make a return to home soil this weekend. Last seen in font of their own supporters claiming a 3-0 romp against St. Albans, Katsakis’ inconstant squad have won each of their last three straight showdowns at the Olympic Park.
As for the visitors, only continuing on what has been another NPL Victoria romp this season, South Melbourne find themselves tipped as a standout pick to defend their crown in 2023. Last seen putting in another action-packed display as they claimed a 3-2 win at home against Dandenong, Esteban Quintas’s men have remarkably mustered 34 points from just their last 12 appearances – a run that stems all the way back to April 8th. Along with opening June with a 2-1 victory away at the Melbourne Knights, the Blues have continued to gain a reputation for their free-scoring performances in the final third. Including a 5-1 romp at home against Altona Magic on April 29th, it is worth noting that South Melbourne have notched 26 strikes on their 12-match unbeaten flurry. In a showdown that could prove to be another lively affair on Friday morning, we are backing both teams to find the net here.
