Bitesize Prediction: Huddersfield Town vs Barnsley – 22/04/22

Competition: Championship

Market: Huddersfield Town win

Odds: 4/6 @ 888sport

In a showdown between two sides battling it out at opposite ends of the Championship table, Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield and Barnsley will face off on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, managing to make an immediate return to winning ways with an eye-catching 2-0 victory away at Middlesbrough last time out, the mood in Huddersfield’s camp should be at a red-hot high. Cruising their way to a play-off spot this season and opening this weekend’s fixtures sat third in the table, Carlos Corberán also finds his side enjoying a real purple patch. Gaining a host of plaudits from across the Championship this season, the one-time Leeds coach has seen his side muster 10 points from their last four second-tier outings. With their recent run also underlined by a 2-0 win at home against fellow top-six contenders Luton, fans around the John Smith’s Stadium will be desperate for their side to keep up their recent momentum and claim Yorkshire bragging rights here.

As for the visitors, while Barnsley might have shocked almost everyone across England as they pinched a play-off spot last season, the Reds are now in the midst of a Championship nightmare. Last seen putting in a woeful display as they suffered a 2-0 loss at home against Peterborough, Poya Asbaghi’s side are sat rock-bottom of the table and freefalling their way back down to League One. Enduring a five-match winless run, a run highlighted by a 4-1 drumming away at Millwall earlier in the month, Barnsley will be more than aware that they face a huge task across Yorkshire on Friday night. With Huddersfield picking up a 1-0 victory when the two sides faced off on FA Cup duties back in February, it is hard to see anything other than a routine home win for the leading play-off contenders here.
