Hoping to maintain their spot at the top of the Championship table, Sunderland will travel to the MKM Stadium when they meet Hull.
Starting with the hosts, eventually falling short in the race to punch a shock play-off ticket last season, Hull are desperate to go one-step further this time around. However, although the Tigers might have opened October in the midst of a real flurry, Tim Walter’s side came crashing down to earth prior to the fortnight interval. Last seen putting in a nightmare performance at Carrow Road as they fell to a 4-0 drumming at the hands of Norwich, the Yorkshire-based outfit are seeking an immediate response here. Marking their return to Championship action this weekend scrapping it out in the bottom-half of the table, Hull will know the importance of finding some crucial defensive resolve. Despite signing off September with a 4-1 romp against Cardiff, Sunday’s hosts have recorded just a sole clean sheet from any of their previous 12 consecutive Championship showdowns continuing on from last season – a run that stems all the way back to April 20th.
As for the visitors, marking their return from October’s international break leading the chase at the top of the Championship table, Sunderland will be looking to lay down another statement of intent here. However, although the Black Cats might have continued to receive a string of plaudits, they are seeking some recent stability. Despite snatching what was a sensational last-gasp 2-2 draw against Leeds prior to October’s fortnight interval, they have won just a pair of their previous five Championship appearances. Signing off September with a shock 2-1 loss away at Watford, Regis Le Bris’ men are also seeking their own defensive steel. Falling to an action-packed 3-2 loss at the hands of relegation scrappers Plymouth last month, Sunderland have conceded eight goals in just their previous four showdowns away from the Stadium of Light. Crashing out of the EFL Cup on August 13th following a 2-0 defeat away at Preston, we could be set for an enjoyable battle on Sunday afternoon.
