In what could prove to be a cagey Championship affair on Sunday afternoon, Hull will welcome West Brom the the MKM Stadium.
Starting with the hosts, while Hull might have enjoyed a much-needed flurry when signing off September, the Tigers have come crashing back down to earth. Putting in another downbeat display earlier in the week as they slumped to a 1-0 loss away at Oxford United, Tim Walter appears to have some mounting pressure on his shoulders at the MKM Stadium. Continuing to tumble their way down the Championship table, the Tigers have now failed to win any of their previous six consecutive Championship appearances. Marking their return from October’s international break with another 1-0 defeat at the hands of Sunderland, Hull are also desperately seeking a clinical edge. With just their goal difference keeping them outside of the relegation zone, Walter’s side have notched just a trio of goals on their six-match winless rut. It should also be highlighted, Sunday’s hosts have seen five of their previous six showdowns at the MKM Stadium finish with under 2.5 goals.
As for the visitors, while West Brom might have come flying out of the traps when opening up the new campaign, the Baggies find themselves in an almost identical position to Sunday’s hosts. Putting in another toothless performance on Thursday night as they played out a 0-0 stalemate at home against Burnley, Carlos Corberan’s men have remarkably failed to muster a single victory from any of their previous eight consecutive Championship appearances. With that extended rut stemming all the way back to a 1-0 win against Plymouth on September 21st, West Brom have also gained a real reputation for their struggles in the final third. Signing off October with another 0-0 draw against Cardiff, the former Huddersfield boss has seen his squad record just a single strike from any of their last four straight outings. Likewise, it should also be noted that Corberan’s side have recorded only a pair of Championship gaols since the end of September.
