Looking to make it three victories on the bounce this weekend, Fulham will travel to Portman Road on Saturday afternoon when they meet Ipswich.
Starting with the hosts, while Ipswich might have secured a famous Premier League return for this season, the Blues have struggled to deal with a drastic jump up in class. Marking their iconic top-flight return with a 2-0 loss at home against Liverpool on August 17th, Kieran McKenna’s men are desperately seeking a much-needed boost. Suffering an expected collapse away at defending champions Manchester City last weekend as they eventually slumped to a 4-1 defeat at Portman Road, the one-time Manchester United coach will have a mounting headache over his side’s defensive struggles. Shockingly crashing out of the EFL Cup away at League Two outfit AFC Wimbledon earlier in the month, Ipswich have lost all of their opening three appearances across all competitions and should have another tricky test on the cards here. Along with winning just a pair of their final six Championship appearances last season, McKenna’s side have shipped eight goals on their three-match losing rut since opening up the new campaign.
As for the visitors, while Fulham might have got things underway with a last-gasp 1-0 loss away at Manchester United on August 16th, the Cottagers will take plenty of positives away from their eye-catching start to proceedings. Extending on their EFL Cup adventure earlier in the week as they secured a deserved 2-0 win away at Birmingham, Marco Silva’s men should be excited by a trip to Portman Road here. Getting a first Premier League victory on the board last weekend as they claimed a 2-1 win at home against top-flight returners Leicester, the former Everton boss has been filled with praise for his side’s start. Signing off the 2023/24 campaign with an action-packed 4-2 victory against Luton, Fulham will also be excited by their most recent trip to Ipswich. In fact, along with landing a 3-1 romp when they travelled to Portman Road while in EFL Cup action last season, they have won all of their previous four trips to East Anglia by an aggregate score of 8-1.
