Looking to bounce back from their World Cup qualifying heartbreak, Ukraine will make the trip to Ireland on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Ireland might have shown some recent improvements over recent months, Stephen Kenny’s men are coming off the back of a toothless display. Eventually getting hit with a late 1-0 loss away at Armenia when opening this year’s Nations League campaign, the Greens will be desperate to find an immediate boost here. Watching their extended eight-match unbeaten run come to an abrupt end last weekend, they should at least be boosted by an eye-catching run on home soil. Last seen in Dublin snatching a last-gasp 1-0 victory against Lithuania in a friendly showdown on March 29th, Kenny’s side are now unbeaten in each of their last six home fixtures across all formats. Managing to snatch points off of the likes of Belgium, Portugal and Serbia on that run, Wednesday’s hosts could be smelling a chance here.
As for the visitors, eventually falling at the final hurdle away in Cardiff a few days ago, Ukraine should be looking to take the positives away from their qualifying adventure. Falling to a 1-0 loss against Wales after overcoming Scotland last week, Oleksandr Petrakov’s men will now be hoping to find some kind of on-field bounce here. Dealing with the ongoing conflict within their own country, the Yellows have still gained plenty of plaudits over recent times. Watching their preparations take a major hit last month as they could only muster a trio of friendly contests against club sides Borussia Mönchengladbach, Rijeka and Empoli, Ukraine have still lost just one of their previous 12 matchups across all formats. Despite their World Cup dreams coming to an end last weekend, we’re backing an away double chance for Petrakov’s motivated squad here.
