In what could prove to be an enjoyable affair from Scotland’s League One on Christmas Eve lunchtime, Dunfermline will make the trip to Kelty Hearts for a Fife derby.
Starting with the hosts, while Kelty Hearts might still find themselves battling it out at the foot of the table, they are currently sat in League One limbo. Holding a commanding 14-point buffer over the drop zone and simply looking to sign off 2023 with a flurry, John Potter’s side are enjoying what has been a welcomed boost since opening December. Last seen mounting a stunning late comeback away at Queen of the South as they eventually snatched a 2-1 victory, the Jambos have now won each of their last three matchups across all formats. With that run highlighted by a 3-0 romp against Peterhead earlier in the month, the Fife-based outfit have also continued to impress in front of their own supporters this season. In fact, Saturday’s hosts have lost just one of their previous nine showdowns at New Central Park – a run that stems all the way back to July 30th.
As for the visitors, although Dunfermline might have lost their second-tier status last season, it appears that James McPake’s side are cruising their way toward an immediate return. Last seen on December 9th when laying down another marker as they picked up a 5-1 romp away at Arbroath, the Whites are now enjoying an extended eight-match unbeaten run. Making the trip across Fife on Christmas Eve holding a four-point buffer over the chasing pack, the former Dundee boss has also seen his side gain a reputation for their free-scoring displays in the final third. On a run that is highlighted by a 4-0 victory at home against Forfar last month, Dunfermline have already bagged 10 goals in just their previous three League One showdowns. Picking up a 2-1 win when they faced off against their local rivals on October 29th, we’re expecting another enjoyable affair.
