Competition: Scottish Premiership
Market: Kilmarnock win
Odds: 2/3 @ BetUS
Hoping to make a welcomed return to winning ways on Wednesday night, Kilmarnock will welcome Livingston to Rugby Park.
Starting with the hosts, while Kilmarnock might be cruising towards a top-half finish this season, Derek McInnes’ men are seeking a recent boost. Eventually having to settle for a 1-1 stalemate away at Motherwell over the weekend, the former Aberdeen boss has seen his squad win just one of their previous five domestic appearances across all competitions. However, extending on their Scottish Cup adventure on January 20th as they secured a 2-0 win against Dundee at Rugby Park, the Ayrshire-based outfit should be smelling a real opportunity here. Gaining plenty of plaudits this year and making a string of improvements, Kilmarnock have suffered just a single loss from any of their last nine Premiership showdowns. Picking up some eye-catching scalps this season and with their top-flight purple patch highlighted by a 2-1 victory against defending champions Celtic on December 10th, McInnes’ side have also continued to shine on home soil. In fact, Kilmarnock have suffered just a single defeat at Rugby Park since the end of September.
As for the visitors, eventually slumping to a routine 3-0 drumming at the hands of Rangers over the weekend, Livingston are enduring a real top-flight struggle. Remarkably winning just one of their previous 18 straight appearances across all formats – a run that stems all the way back to October 7th. Signing off 2023 with a 3-1 defeat away at Motherwell, David Martindale’s side have also gained a major reputation for their extended struggles on the road. In fact, the Lions have lost all of their last nine consecutive showdowns away from the Almondvale Stadium. Sat rock-bottom of the Premiership table and collecting just 13 points from their 24 Premiership appearances this season, the Yellows are tipped as a leading relegation contender in 2024. Tipped as an underdog contender on Wednesday night, Livingston should also be concerned by their most recent trip to Rugby Park. Hit with a 3-1 drumming when they travelled to Ayrshire back on October 21st, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
