Looking to officially book a top-half finish on Sunday afternoon, Alaves will travel to the Estadio Gran Canaria when they meet Las Palmas.
Starting with the hosts, although Las Palmas might have managed to keep hold of their La Liga status this season, Los Amarillos do have the feel of a squad limping their way over the finishing line. Last seen putting in another toothless performance as they had to settle for a 0-0 stalemate away at Cadiz, Garcia Pimienta’s men have come under plenty of recent scrutiny. In fact, the former Barcelona coach has not seen his squad muster a single victory from any of their previous 13 consecutive appearances – a run that stems all the way back to a 2-0 win against Valencia on February 10th. With their recent glaring issues underlined by a 1-0 loss at the hands of Mallorca earlier in the month, Las Palmas have also gained a reputation for their extended struggles on home soil. Including back-to-back 2-0 defeats against Girona and Sevilla last month, Sunday’s hosts have collected just a single point from any of their previous five showdowns at the Estadio Gran Canaria.
As for the visitors, although Alaves might have only made their La Liga return this season, Luis Plaza’s men have continued to gain plenty of plaudits. Knowing that three points here would be enough to officially wrap up a shock top-half finish, the Blues have suffered just a single loss from any of their previous six appearances. Last seen claiming a rugged 1-0 victory at home against Getafe, El Glorioso find the mood in their camp at a real high. Springing a famous upset on April 21st as they secured a 2-0 win against Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, Alaves have also recorded four clean sheets in their last six outings. However, despite smelling a potential opportunity here, Plaza’s men have shown some extended issues on the road. In fact, the former Mallorca boss has seen his squad lose four of their previous five La Liga showdowns away from the Mendizorroza. It should also be noted, Alaves have recorded just a single goal on their travels since the end of January.
