In what could prove to be an enjoyable affair from the Estadio Gran Canaria this weekend, Las Palmas will host Rayo Vallecano on Sunday lunchtime.
Starting with the hosts, while Las Palmas might have only made their La Liga return this season, Garcia Pimienta’s men have continued to shine since opening up the 2023/24 campaign. Heading into October’s international break with a stellar 2-1 victory away at Villarreal, Los Amarillos mark their return battling it out in the top-half of the table and with the mood in their camp at a real high. With their recent purple patch highlighted by another 2-1 win at home against Celta Vigo earlier in the month, the Yellows will simply be looking to carry on from where they left off prior to the fortnight interval. Likewise, unbeaten in any of their last four La Liga showdowns at the Estadio Gran Canaria, Las Palmas will be looking to make another statement here. However, despite impressing with their recent performances in the final third, Pimienta is still hoping for his side to find some welcomed defensive resolve. Aside from a 1-0 win against Granada on September 24th, that is the only clean sheet that Sunday’s hosts have mustered from any of their seven top-flight appearances.
As for the visitors, heading into October’s international break with four straight La Liga stalemates on the bounce, Rayo Vallecano will be hoping to claim a much-welcomed victory here. Although Francisco’s side might be dreaming of the chance to book a famous European ticket this season, the Little Thunderbolts have mustered just a single win from any of their last seven top-flight appearances – a run that stems all the way back to August 21st. Last seen heading into the fortnight interval with a pair of 2-2 draws against Sevilla and Mallorca, the Vallecas-based outfit are also seeking their own defensive resolve. Including a woeful 7-0 drumming at the hands of Atletico Madrid when signing off August, Vallecano could face a stern challenge when they travel to the Canary Islands this weekend. It should be noted, with three of the last four meetings between Sunday’s opponents finishing with both teams finding the net, we are expecting a similar outcome on Sunday lunchtime.
