Competition: Championship
Market: Leeds United win
Odds: 4/11 @ BetUS
Simply looking to widen their buffer at the top of the Championship table, Leeds will welcome West Brom Elland Road on Saturday lunchtime.
Starting with the hosts, mounting what was another astonishing late comeback away at Sheffield United earlier in the week, Leeds appear to be storming their way to a Premier League return. Eventually leaving Elland Road with a thumping 3-1 win, Daniel Farke’s men have rightfully cemented their spot as the Championship’s leading title contenders. Opening this weekend’s fixtures holding a five-point buffer over the chasing pack, the former Norwich boss will simply be calling on his squad to lay down another marker here. Although the Lilywhites might have watched their FA Cup adventure come to an end at the hands of Millwall last month, Leeds have enjoyed a major Championship romp. Getting February underway with a dominant 7-0 victory against Cardiff, Farke’s men have won all of their previous five consecutive Championship showdowns. It should also be noted, Saturday’s hosts have not suffered a single second-tier defeat since the end of November.
As for the visitors, making what was a much-welcomed return to winning ways last weekend as they secured a 2-0 victory against Oxford United, West Brom will be desperate to use that result as a platform to build on. However, although Tony Mowbray’s men might find themselves still leading the chase in the play-off battle, the Baggies are seeking some crucial stability. Getting February underway with a shock 2-1 loss at the hands of relegation scrappers Plymouth, the Midlands-based outfit have won just a trio of their previous 10 appearances across all competitions. With that rut stemming all the way back to New Year’s Day, Saturday’s guests have also gained an unwanted reputation for their glaring issues away from the Hawthorns. Crashing out of the FA Cup on November 11th as they slumped to a 5-1 drumming against Premier League outfit Bournemouth, West Brom have remarkably failed to notch a single victory on their travels since the start of November.
