In what could prove to be an action-packed affair from Elland Road on Saturday lunchtime, Leeds will welcome Ipswich to Yorkshire this weekend.
Starting with the hosts, losing their Premier League status last season and coming under a huge amount of scrutiny, Leeds have their sights firmly set on securing an immediate top-flight return in the New Year. However, although the Whites might have continued to shine since they appointed Daniel Farke over the summer, the Yorkshire-based outfit have collected just a single point from their previous two Championship appearances. Nevertheless, still with their sights set on mounting an automatic promotion charge in 2024, Leeds have suffered just a single defeat from any of their last nine straight outings – a run that stems all the way back to October 25th. Facing what could be a stern challenge on Saturday lunchtime, the former Norwich boss will be calling on his squad to find some crucial defensive resolve. Forced to settle for a 1-1 stalemate at home against Coventry last weekend, it should be noted that Farke’s side have recorded just a single clean sheet from their previous seven appearances.
As for the visitors, although Ipswich might have only made their Championship return this season, Kieran McKenna’s side are in the midst of a public fairytale. Remarkably holding a 10-point buffer from dropping out of the automatic promotion places, the one-time Manchester United coach has seen his squad gain a string of plaudits. While the Blues might have eventually been forced to settle for an action-packed 2-2 draw against bitter local rivals Norwich last weekend, Ipswich have collected 13 points from their previous five Championship appearances. Signing off November with a 3-1 romp against Millwall, a huge part of their success has come thanks to some free-scoring performances in the final third. Already notching a staggering 47 second-tier strikes this season, McKenna’s men will be desperate to lay down a major promotion marker at Elland Road. However, hit with an action-packed 4-3 loss when they welcomed Leeds to Suffolk for their reverse Championship meeting on August 26th, we are expecting chances to come thick and fast here.
