In what is a real showdown at the top of the Championship table, Leeds will welcome Middlesbrough to Elland Road on Tuesday night.
Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to winning ways last weekend as they secured a routine 2-0 win against Derby, it is no secret that Leeds are pencilled in as a leading promotion contender this season. Opening Tuesday’s showdown in Yorkshire sat just a single point adrift of climbing to the top of the Championship table, Daniel Farke’s men have collected 12 points from just their previous five appearances. Marking their return from November’s international break with a pulsating 4-3 victory away at Swansea, the former Norwich boss has also seen his squad suffer just a pair of Championship defeats since the middle of September. Making a statement last month as they claimed a 3-0 romp against Luton, Leeds have also continued to shine with their dominance on home soil. In fact, Tuesday’s hosts have won each of their previous seven consecutive showdowns at Elland Road. Likewise, Farke’s side have recorded 17 goals on that seven-match winning run at Elland Road.
As for the visitors, putting in a gritty performance away at Burnley last weekend as they snatched a 1-1 stalemate at Turf Moor, Middlesborough have continued to shine this season. Signing off November with a 3-1 romp against Hull, Michael Carrick’s men have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous six Championship appearances. Leading the chase in the play-off race, the former Manchester United coach will also be excited by his side’s clinical displays in the final third. Marking their return from November’s international break with an action-packed 6-2 win against Oxford, Tuesday’s guests have also impressed with their success away from Tyneside. It should be noted, Middlesbrough have collected seven points from their last three Championship showdowns on the road. Including a 4-1 victory against QPR on November 5th, Carrick’s side have also registered 14 goals in their previous four away fixtures. Two sides who are scrapping it out at the top of the table, we are expecting an enjoyable affair here.
