Bitesize Prediction: Leeds vs Sunderland – 09/04/24

Competition: Premier League

Market: Leeds win

Odds: 4/11 @ BetUS

Desperate to make an immediate return to winning ways on Tuesday night, Leeds will welcome Sunderland to Elland Road in midweek.

Starting with the hosts, missing out on the chance to climb back into the automatic promotion places as they eventually fell to a 2-1 loss away at Coventry, Leeds will know the importance of claiming an immediate response here. Still tipped as a leading contender to clinch an immediate Premier League return this season, Daniel Farke’s men will certainly be excited to make a return to Elland Road on Tuesday night. Opening April with a 3-1 romp at home against Hull, the former Norwich boss has seen his squad lost just one of their previous 16 Championship appearances – a run that stems all the way back to December 29th. Marking their return to Yorkshire sat just a single point adrift of breaking back into the top-two, Leeds will be smelling a golden opportunity here. Including a stellar 3-1 victory against Leicester on February 23rd, Farke’s side have won all of their previous five showdowns at Elland Road by an aggregate score of 12-1.

As for the visitors, although Sunderland might have opened the 2023/24 campaign with their sights set on clinching another play-off ticket, the Black Cats are enduring a real Championship nightmare. Continuing tip slide down the table, interim boss Mike Dodds has a real job on his hands at the Stadium of Light. Putting in another toothless performance over the weekend as they had to settle for a 0-0 stalemate at home against Bristol City, Tuesday’s guests have collected just a single victory from any of their previous 10 appearances – a rut that stems all the way back to a 1-0 win against Hull on Boxing Day. Opening April with a woeful 5-1 drumming at the hands of Blackburn, Sunderland have also lost four of their last five showdowns on the road. Dropping into the bottom-half of the Championship table and coming under a huge amount of scrutiny, we are backing a home victory for the automatic promotion contenders here.
