Hoping to try and find a route into the European places on Saturday evening, Lille will welcome Bordeaux to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Saturday evening.
Starting with the hosts, while Lille might have been disappointed to have seen Premier League giants Chelsea end their Champions League adventure last month, they are enjoying an eye-catching domestic run. Heading into the international break with a deserved 1-0 win away at Nantes, Les Dogues have really started to skyrocket their way up the Ligue 1 table. Now sat just two points adrift of breaking into the European places, Head Coach Jocelyn Gourvennec should find the mood in his camp at a high. While Lille might find themselves someway off defending their French crown this season, this weekend’s hosts are unbeaten in their last six Ligue 1 matchups. Likewise, landing an action-packed 3-2 win when they faced off against Bordeaux back in December, Gourvennec’s side should be smelling a golden chance here.
As for the visitors, last seen heading into March’s international break with a sluggish 2-0 defeat at home against Montpellier, it is fair to say that Bordeaux find themselves in the midst of a Ligue 1 nightmare. Appearing to freefall their way out of France’s top-flight and making their return to action sat rock-bottom of the table, David Guion’s men will know that they face another huge task on Saturday evening. Along with losing each of their last three Ligue 1 fixtures on the spin by an aggregate score of 7-0, Bordeaux have also managed to collect just a single victory since opening 2022. Failing to win any of their last six straight contests away from the Matmut Atlantique, including a 3-0 drumming against Brest on Coupe de France duties, it is hard to see anything other than a home victory here.
