Looking to build off of their European display earlier in the week, Lille will welcome Nantes to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Lille might have struggled to have matched a similar level that saw them lift the Ligue 1 title last season, Jocelyn Gourvennec’s side will be boosted by their European display in midweek. Claiming a 1-0 win Champions League against Salzburg on home soil on, Les Dogues will now be desperate to find some Ligue 1 stability. Smelling a real chance to at least break back into the top-half of the table, the defending champions do have one attacking talisman enjoying an eye-catching run. Bagging what turned out to be the winner against Salzburg on Tuesday night, Jonathan David has already recorded three goals since his return from November’s international break. Continuing to gain plenty of plaudits from across France since opening the 2021/22 campaign, the 21-year-old has also racked up 10 Ligue 1 goals in just his 14 appearances.

As for the visitors, last seen marking their return from the international break with a 3-1 loss against PSG on their travels, Nantes have shown some worrying issues on either side of the interval. Mustering just a single point from any of their last three Ligue 1 contests, Head Coach Antoine Kombouaré will be worried by his side’s problems at the back. The Yellows have managed to record just a single clean sheet from any of their last 14 straight outings, a run that stems back to the middle of August. Knowing that they should face a tough test at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy this weekend, Nantes should also be concerned ​by their recent record against Saturday’s hosts. Including a 2-0 loss when the two sides last faced off back in February, they have lost each of their last six straight meetings against the defending champions.
