Meeting for the second time in the space of just a few days, Luton will welcome QPR to Kenilworth Road on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Luton might have gained plenty of plaudits following their famous Premier League return last season, the Hatters are in the midst of a public struggle. Losing their top-flight status prior to the summer break, Rob Edwards’ side have come under some mounting scrutiny. Crashing out of the EFL Cup earlier in the week as they suffered penalties heartbreak at the hands of Friday’s opponents, the former Watford boss is desperately seeking some kind of boost. Signing off their summer preparations with a 3-1 loss at the hands of Spanish outfit Celta Vigo, Luton have failed to find any kind of momentum. Opening proceedings with a 4-1 drumming at home against Burnley, the Hatters have continued to gain a reputation for their glaring defensive struggles. In fact, continuing on from last season, Edwards’ men have recorded just a single clean sheet from any of their previous 22 competitive appearances across all competitions.
As for the visitors, mounting a sensational comeback last season as they managed to keep hold of their Championship status, QPR are simply looking for a smoother ride this time around. Although the Hoops might have opened the 2024/25 campaign with a 3-1 loss at home against West Brom, Marti Cifuentes’ men have come roaring back. Extending on their EFL Cup adventure earlier in the week as they edged past Luton in west London, Friday’s guests are unbeaten in all of their previous four appearances across all competitions. However, left disappointed last weekend as they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 stalemate against Plymouth at Loftus Road, QPR are seeking their own defensive resolve. In fact, Cifuentes’ side have not recorded a single clean sheet since opening up the new campaign. Likewise, it should be highlighted, with the Hoops seeing each of their first five matchups finish with both teams finding the net, we are expecting a similar outcome this weekend.
