Odds: 2/5 @ 888sport

With the 2022/23 Ligue 1 campaign opening up on Friday night, Lyon will welcome top-flight returners AC Ajaccio to the Groupama Stadium.

Starting with the hosts, signing off their pre-season preparations with a 2-2 draw against Italian heavyweights Inter Milan last weekend, Lyon will be looking to open the 2022/23 campaign with a flurry here. Although Les Gones might have failed to clinch another European finish last season, Head Coach Peter Bosz did see his side sign off their downbeat campaign with an eye-catching run. Along with ending last season’s run with a 2-1 victory away at Clermont, the Whites mustered 12 points from their final five Ligue 1 matchups. With that run of form highlighted by a 3-0 romp away at Marseille, Lyon should be smelling the chance to lay down an early marker on Friday night. Likewise, it should also be highlighted, Lyon won each of their final four Ligue 1 contests at the Groupama Stadium, racking up 17 strikes.

As for the visitors, while AC Ajaccio might have managed to secure a top-flight return last season, the Bears failed to pick up much momentum over the summer. Winning just one of their four friendly contests, including defeats against the likes of Paris FC and Caen, Head Coach Olivier Pantaloni will know that his side face a real task on Friday night. With many across France tipping the Corsica-based outfit to be at the heart of a relegation scrap this time around, Ajaccio should be worried by a downbeat record against Lyon. Suffering a 5-1 drumming when they faced off against Les Gones in the Coupe de France last season, they have lost their back-to-back meetings by an aggregate score of 8-2. With Friday’s hosts enjoying an impressive end to the 2021/22 campaign, we’re backing a home victory here.

Bet: Lyon 2/5 to beat AC Ajaccio in Friday’s Ligue 1 opener @ 888sport
