Competition: Ligue 1
Market: Lyon win
Odds: 4/6 @ 888sport
Looking to extend on their recent domestic flurry and lay down another marker on Sunday afternoon, Lyon will welcome Lorient to the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
Starting with the hosts, while Lyon might have been stunned by that 2-1 loss away at Auxerre on February 17th, Les Gones have proven that was nothing more than a minor blip. Extending on their Coupe de France adventure earlier in the week as they claimed a 2-1 victory at home against Ligue 2 Grenoble, Laurent Blanc’s men are still dreaming of the chance to secure a European return this year. Likewise, last seen in top-flight action claiming a routine 3-1 romp away at Angers, the one-time PSG boss has seen his side five of their last six matchups across all formats. Tasting defeat in just one of their last nine domestic showdowns – a run that stems back to January 14th – Lyon have also continued to impress on home soil. It should be noted, including a 2-1 victory against Lens last month, Sunday’s hosts have won three consecutive battles at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.
As for the visitors, although Lorient might have claimed a much-needed boost at home against Ajaccio on February 19th, Regis Le Bris’ side certainly came crashing back down to earth last weekend. Putting in a nightmare display on home soil as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at home against Auxerre, Les Merlus have come tumbling away from any potential European charge. Crashing out of the Coupe de France last month at the hands of Lens, the Brittany-based outfit are screaming out for some recent stability. Losing three of their last four matchups across all formats, Lorient have also recorded just a sole domestic victory since the end of January. With that extending blip highlighted by an action-packed 4-2 defeat away at Reims on February 1st, Bris’ downbeat squad should face another tricky test on Sunday afternoon.
