Competition: A-League

Odds: 1/2 @ BetUS
Two camps who are desperate to extend their buffer in the play-off chase, Macarthur will welcome Western United to the Campbelltown Stadium on Sunday morning.
Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to losing ways last week as they fell to a 2-1 loss away at Auckland, Macarthur are desperately seeking some much-welcomed stability. While the Bulls might open this weekend’s fixtures sat in the play-off places, Mile Sterjovski’s side have recorded consecutive A-League victories on just a single occasion since the end of October. Despite getting the New Year underway with an action-packed 3-2 victory against Western Sydney, Macarthur have continued to show some extended defensive issues. Including another 2-1 defeat against Wellington on January 20th, Sunday’s hosts have conceded a pair of goals in four of their previous six A-League appearances. It should also be noted, Sterjovski’s camp have gained an unwanted reputation for their glaring issues on home soil. In fact, the Bulls have remarkably notched just a single victory from any of their last eight showdowns at the Campbelltown Stadium – a run that stems all the way back to a 6-1 romp against Perth on October 30th.
As for the visitors, while Western United might have spent the whole of last season scrapping it out at the foot of the A-League table, John Aloisi’s side have come roaring back in a sensational fashion this time around. Mustering seven points from their previous three A-League appearances, the Tarneit-based outfit find the mood in their camp at a real high. Sat in the driving seat to punch a play-off ticket in 2025, Sunday’s guests have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous nine appearances – a purple patch that stems all the way back to December 1st. Storming their way to a remarkable 4-3 victory against Melbourne Victory last month, Western United have also continued to shine with their clinical performances in the final third. Getting the New Year underway with a 3-2 win against Perth, Aloisi’s camp have recorded at least a pair of goals in six of their previous eight A-League showdowns. Likewise, mustering 15 points from their last six matchups outside of Tarneit, the former Brisbane boss could be smelling a potential opportunity here.
