In what could prove to be an action-packed A-League showdown from the Campbelltown Stadium, Macarthur will welcome Melbourne to New South Wales on Friday morning.
Starting with the hosts, while Macarthur might have opened the New Year in the midst of an eye-catching flurry, the Bulls have largely come crashing back down to earth over the past fortnight. Suffering AFC Cup heartbreak at the hands of Central Coast on February 22nd as they eventually fell to a 3-2 loss on home soil, Mile Sterjovski’s side are without a win from their previous three showdowns against A-League opposition. Likewise, last seen in top-flight action playing out a lively 2-2 stalemate away at Newcastle, fans around the Campbelltown Stadium will be most concerned by their side’s recent defensive issues. Including a 2-1 loss at the hands of Wellington, Macarthur have recorded just a pair of clean sheets from any of their previous 14 straight appearances across all competitions – a run that stems all the way back to December 14th. It should also be noted, Sterjovski’s men have seen six of their last seven home fixtures finish with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, while Melbourne might have managed to snatch a third A-League crown last season, the Blues have struggled to find any kind of stability this time around. Still battling it out in the bottom-half of the table, Aurelio Vidmar’s men have recorded just a single victory from any of their previous seven top-flight appearances on the bounce. With their nightmare blip underlined by a woeful 5-1 drumming at the hands of Brisbane on February 10th, the defending champions have also gained a reputation or their extended issues on the road. Including an action-packed 4-2 loss against Perth last month, this weekend’s guests have collected just one-point point from any of their previous four A-League showdowns away from AAMI Park. It should also be noted, with Friday’s opponents playing out a stunning 3-3 stalemate when they met for their most recent A-League battle on November 12th, we are expecting what could prove to be another pulsating affair here.
