Hoping to extend their buffer over the relegation zone, Malaga will welcome Eldense to La Rosaleda on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Malaga might have secured a Segunda return for this season, Los Albicelestes are set for a real battle. Eventually forced to settle for an uneventful 0-0 stalemate away at fellow strugglers Burgos last weekend, Sergio Pellicer’s men are without a win from any of their previous six Segunda appearances. With that run stemming all the way bak to a 1-0 victory against Cartagena on November 9th, the former Valencia coach will have a real headache over his side’s struggles in the final third. Opening December with a 2-0 defeat away at Castellon, Malaga have recorded just a single strike in any of their previous three Segunda outings. Likewise, it should also be noted, Wednesday’s hosts have also drawn a blank in four of their last six battles against second-tier opposition. However, despite those extended issues on the road, Pellicer’s men will take some solace from their success on home soil. Including a 1-0 win against Cartagena last month, they are unbeaten in front of their own supporters since the end of September.
As for the visitors, while Eldense might have sprung a real Copa del Rey update on December 4th as they claimed a 1-0 win away at Cadiz, it appears that might have just been a minor boost for Dani Ponz’s side. Putting in a toothless performance last weekend as they had to settle for their own 0-0 stalemate against Elche, the Valencia-based outfit are scrapping it out in the relegation zone. Opening Wednesday’s showdown sat one-point adrift of safety, Eldense have failed to win any of their previous four Segunda appearances. Signing off November with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mirandes, the one-time Levante coach has also seen his squad show some real issues on the road. Losing their previous three straight Segunda showdowns outside of Valencia, they should also be concerned by their most recent trip to Malaga. Hit with a 1-0 defeat when they travelled to La Rosaleda 12 months ago, we could be set for another cagey affair in midweek.
