Competition: League Two
Market: Mansfield win
Odds: 4/9 @ Pribet
Simply looking to extend their buffer at the top of the League Two table, Mansfield will welcome Colchester to Field Mill on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, continuing on what has been a stunning League Two romp this season, Mansfield have certainly gained plenty of admirers. Opening this weekend’s fixtures holding a five-point buffer at the top of the table, Nigel Clough’s men will be looking to make another statement of intent here. Rightfully tipped as the standout promotion contender in 2024, the former Burton boss finds the mood in his camp at a red-hot high. Last seen putting in a thumping display as they stormed their way to a 5-1 romp away at Bradford, fans around Mill Field will be demanding a repeat performance on Saturday lunchtime. Stealing plenty of headlines back on February 13th as they secured an iconic 9-2 romp against Harrogate, Mansfield have won seven of their previous 10 appearances across all competitions. With that flurry stemming all the way back to a 1-1 stalemate against Sutton on January 23rd, Clough’s side have also won four of their last five contests at Field Mill.
As for the visitors, while Colchester might have eventually clung to their League Two status last season, the Essex-based outfit are enduring another public struggle this time around. Once again scrapping it out at the foot of the table and struggling to find any kind of stability, it appears that new boss Danny Cowley has a real job on his hands. Last seen settling for a 1-1 stalemate at home against Walsall, the U’s have failed to win any of their previous seven straight League Two showdowns. It should also be noted, Saturday’s guests have collected just a sole victory from any of their last 13 outings – a run that stems all the way back to December 22nd. Faced with what looks set to be a heavyweight challenge this weekend, the former Portsmouth boss couldn’t have asked for a tougher challenge here. Two sides scrapping it out at opposite ends of the table, we are predicting a home victory at Field Mill.
