Competition: A-League
Market: Melbourne City win
Odds: 1/2 @ BetUS
Hoping to find a route back into the AFC Champions League spots on Friday morning, Melbourne City will welcome Brisbane to AAMI Park.
Starting with the hosts, while Melbourne might have entered March’s international break with a 1-0 loss against Newcastle, Aureilo Vidmar’s men have proven that shock result was nothing more than a minor blip. Last seen collecting a 1-0 victory against Central Coast, the Sky Blues have skyrocketed their way up the A-League standings and now have an AFC Champions League ticket at the top of their agenda in 2025. Marking their return from March’s fortnight interval with an action-packed 3-2 win against historic rivals Sydney, Melbourne have won four of their previous five appearances. Likewise, suffering just a single A-League defeat since the start of February, Vidmar’s camp will also be excited by a dominant record against Friday’s guests. Including a 1-0 victory when they welcomed Brisbane to AAMI Park back in January 11th, the Australian giants have collected 12 points from their last five A-League meetings against the Lions.
As for the visitors, enduring what has been another public A-League struggle this season, Brisbane are once again scrapping it out at the foot of the table. In fact, Ruben Zadovich’s side have mustered just 11 points from any of their 21 appearances so far this year. Last seen putting in a woeful display as they slumped to a 5-1 drumming at home against Macarthur, the Lions will be bracing themselves for another stern examination here. Likewise, marking their return from March’s international break with a routine 2-0 defeat against runaway leaders Auckland, Friday’s guests have mustered just a sole victory from any of their previous eight A-League showdowns. Falling to that 1-0 loss when they travelled to AAMI Park back in January, Brisbane are rightfully pencilled in as a major underdog this weekend. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class, we are backing a home win here.
