Competition: A-League

Market: Melbourne City win

Odds: 19/20 @ 888sport

In what could be a hugely enjoyable affair from the A-League on Wednesday morning, Melbourne City will welcome Sydney to AAMI Park.

Starting with the hosts, laying down what was a stunning marker on the road a few days ago, there is no doubt that the mood in Melbourne City’s camp should be at a red-hot high. Storming their way to a 6-0 romp away at Wellington, the defending A-League champions appear to be storming their way towards another domestic crown this season. Holding a five-point buffer over the chasing pack, Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo finds his side enjoying an extended 10-match unbeaten run. With their recent purple patch stemming all the way back to February 15th, Wednesday’s hosts also have one attacking talisman enjoying his own free-scoring run. Already racking up 13 A-League strikes so far this season and gaining a host of plaudits, Australian international Jamie Maclaren leads the race for the Golden Boot by four goals.

As for the visitors, while Sydney might have shown some continued inconsistencies this season, the Australian heavyweights managed to make a much-needed return to winning ways a few days ago. Eventually claiming a thrilling 3-2 win at home against the Wanderers, Head Coach Steve Corica will be desperate for his side to build off of that momentum. Finding a route back into the top-six, the former A-League champions have won just four of their previous 12 outings. Knowing that they face a tough task when they make the trip to AAMI Park on Wednesday morning, Sydney should also be worried by their recent record against the runaway leaders. Hit with a 2-1 loss when the two sides faced off back on February 26nd, Corica’s men have failed to win any of their last six straight meetings against Melbourne.
