Competition: A-League

Market: Melbourne Victory win

Odds: 5/4 @ BetUS

Hoping to find a route to the top of the A-League table on Friday morning, Melbourne Victory will welcome Sydney to AAMI Park.

Starting with the hosts, while Melbourne might have come under a huge amount of scrutiny last season as they battled it out at the foot of the A-League standings, the Victory have come roaring back in some style. Last seen putting in another gritty display as they secured a gritty 1-1 stalemate away at title rivals Wellington, Tony Popovic’s side certainly find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Remarkably the one side among Australia’s elite that have not suffered a single loss from any of their first 13 top-flight appearances, the former Crystal Palace coach will be calling on his squad to make another statement here. Opening the New Year with an action-packed 3-2 victory away at Perth, Melbourne have also continued to shine with their performances on home soil. Including a 3-0 romp when they welcomed Sydney to AAMI Park on December 16th, Popovic’s side have secured back-to-back wins in front of their own supporters by an aggregate score of 5-0.

As for the visitors, making an immediate return to winning ways last weekend as they secured their way to a 4-0 romp at home against Newcastle, the Sky Blues do find themselves at the heart of a real purple patch. Despite falling to an action-packed 4-3 defeat at the hands of Adelaide on January 13th, Ufuk Talay’s side have won four of their previous five A-League appearances. However, hit with that 3-0 drumming when they travelled to AAMI Park on December 16th, the former Wellington boss will have a headache over his side’s recent inconsistencies away from the Allianz Stadium. Including another 3-0 loss against Brisbane, Sydney have lost four of their last six showdowns on the road across all competitions – a run that stems all the way back to September 24th. Opening this weekend’s fixtures with just their goal difference keeping them in the top-half of the A-League standings, we are expecting a home victory on Friday morning.
