Competition: A-League
Market: Melbourne Victory win
Odds: 20/21 @ 888sport
Hoping to try and find a route back to the top of the A-League table on Wednesday morning, Melbourne Victory will welcome Western United to AAMI Park.
Starting with the hosts, while Melbourne Victory might have endured a nightmare A-League campaign last season, it does appear that Tony Popovic’s side have put those issues behind them. Despite crashing out of the AFC Champions League against Kobe last week, they are enjoying a four-match domestic unbeaten run. Last seen over the weekend picking up a deserved 1-1 draw against bitter local rivals Melbourne City, the Blues have also continued to shine with their displays at AAMI Park this season. Including a thumping 3-1 victory against Macarthur on March 4th, Wednesday’s hosts have collected a hugely impressive 12 points from their last five A-League outings. Likewise, hoping to lay down another marker here, it should also be noted that Popovic’s men are unbeaten on home soil since way back on December 5th.
As for the visitors, coming off the back of a woeful display over the weekend, there is no doubt that Western United are seeking an immediate response here. Eventually suffering a 3-0 drumming away at Sydney, John Aloisi’s side also saw that result cost them their spot at the top of the A-League table. Nevertheless, suffering just a single defeat since January 21st, the Truganina-based outfit have still gained a host of plaudits from across Australia this season. However, a win victory on Wednesday morning would see them once again leapfrog the defending champions, United do hold a hugely worrying record against the Victory. Including a 3-1 defeat when the two sides faced off on Boxing Day, it should be highlighted that Aloisi’s side have lost each of their last three meetings against Melbourne.
