Bitesize Prediction: Middlesbrough vs Norwich – 06/03/24

Competition: Championship

Market: Norwich double chance

Odds: 2/3 @ BetUS

Looking to spring an upset on Wednesday night, Norwich will travel to the Riverside when they meet a struggling Middlesbrough.

Starting with the hosts, while Middlesbrough might have opened up the 2023/24 campaign with their sights firmly set on clinching another play-off ticket, Michael Carrick’s men are enduring an extended Championship struggle. Last seen over the weekend putting in another downbeat display as they suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of Stoke, Boro have come tumbling down the table. With some suggesting that Carrick might have some increasing pressure on his shoulders, the former Manchester United midfielder have seen his squad lose four of their previous five Championship appearances. Likewise, along with crashing out of the EFL Cup on January 23rd following a 6-2 aggregate drumming against Chelsea, Wednesday’s hosts have claimed just a single win from any of their last nine outings across all formats. Facing what could be a stern challenge here, Middlesbrough have also shown some recent glaring issues at the Riverside. Including a 2-0 loss against Plymouth on February 24th, Carrick’s men have failed to win any of their last five Championship battles in front of their own supporters.

As for the visitors, picking up a late 1-0 victory at home against Sunderland over the weekend, Norwich are enjoying what has become a real Championship flurry. Continuing to impress since opening up the New Year and with the mood in their camp at a red-hot high, David Wagner’s side could be smelling the chance to make another statement here. Opening Wednesday’s trip to the Riverside sat just a single point adrift of breaking into the play-off places, the Canaries are unbeaten in all of their previous six appearances. Skyrocketing their way up the Championship standings, the former Huddersfield boss will be hugely excited by his side’s clinical performances in the final third. Including a 4-1 romp against Cardiff last month, Norwich have bagged 14 goals on their six-match unbeaten run. Potentially relishing a trip to the north east in midweek, Wagner’s camp have lost just a single second-tier contest away from Carrow Road since opening the New Year. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class, we are backing an away double chance here.
