In what could be an enjoyable affair from the MLS on Saturday night, Minnesota will welcome Portland to Allianz Field this weekend.
Starting with the hosts, while Minnesota might have endured a worrying blip last month, there is no doubt that the Loons have come roaring back. Shocking many across the footballing world as they stormed their way to a stunning 4-0 romp against Premier League outfit Everton in a friendly showdown on July 20th, Adrian Heath’s men built off of that success last weekend. Last seen picking up a 2-1 victory away at Houston, the Saint Paul-based outfit are enjoying a stellar run of form. Including an action-packed 3-2 win against Real Salt Lake when opening July, Minnesota have also really caught they eye with their free-scoring displays in the final third. Unbeaten in their last seven matchups across all formats and recording six victories in doing so, Heath’s side have also bagged 18 goals on that stellar purple patch.
As for the visitors, also enjoying what has been their own hugely impressive run of form, Portland have skyrocketed their way up the Western Conference standings. Last seen picking up a 2-1 victory at home against San Jose, the Timbers find just their goal difference keeping them outside the Final Series spots. With their purple patch highlighted by a pair of 3-0 wins against Seattle and Colorado, Head Coach Giovanni Savarese now finds his side enjoying a seven-match unbeaten run. If Portland are to cause an upset on Saturday night, then they will be calling on the red-hot Jaroslaw Niezgoda to spearhead their charge. Once again finding the net against San Jose last weekend, the 27-year-old has now wracked up five goals in his last six appearances. In a contest that could be another lively affair, we’re backing both teams to find the net here.
