Competition: ISL
Market: Mohun Bagan win
Odds: 1/3 @ Pribet
Looking to extend their stay at the top of the ISL table, a high-flying Mohun Bagan will welcome Hyderabad to the Salt Lake Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to winning ways on Boxing Day as they stormed their way to a 3-1 romp away at Punjab, Mohun Bagan have only continued on another ISL purple patch this season. Making real history last year as they secured a sixth domestic crown, Jose Francisco Molina finds his squad pencilled in as a leading contender to defend their title in 2025. Leading the chase at the top of the ISL standings and riding what has become a major wave of momentum, the Mariners will certainly be smelling another golden opportunity in midweek. Securing an action-packed 3-2 win against the Kerala Blasters last month, Thursday’s hosts have collected 12 points from their previous five ISL appearances – a run that stems back to a 1-1 stalemate against Odisha on November 11th. Suffering just a single defeat since the end of September, Mohun Bagan have also continued to shine on home soil. In fact, the former Villarreal coach has seen his high-flying squad win each of their previous five consecutive matchups at the Salt Lake Stadium.
As for the visitors, while Mohun Bagan might be in the midst of a sensational ISL romp, the same can’t be said for Hyderabad. Finishing rock-bottom of the table last seen and breaking a string of unwanted records, the Nizams have once again shown a host of glaring issues this time around. Despite snatching a 1-1 stalemate at home against East Bengal last time out, that is the only point that Shameel Chembakath’s side have recorded from any of their previous six straight ISL appearances. Slumping to a 5-2 drumming against North East United last month, the Yellows have also gained a reputation for their defensive issues. Coming under a huge amount of scrutiny as they signed off November with a woeful 6-0 drumming at the hands of Odisha, Hyderabad have already shipped 26 goals in their first 13 ISL showdowns. In fact, Thursday’s guests hold the worst defensive tally among India’s elite and are rightfully pencilled in as a landslide underdog when they travel to the Salt Lake Stadium here.
