Two sides who find themselves seeking a boost on Friday night, Motherwell will welcome Kilmarnock to Fir Park when this weekend’s Premiership fixtures get going.
Starting with the hosts, failing to find any kind of boost during the World Cup’s enforced winter break after getting hit with a 4-0 drumming against Premier League outfit Tottenham on December 9th in a friendly contest, Motherwell will be desperate to find some stability here. However, last seen on Premiership duties on November 12th when playing out a 1-1 draw away at St. Johnstone, Steven Hammell’s side have picked up just a single win from any of their last eight domestic contests across all formats – a run that stems back to a 5-0 romp against Ross County at the start of October. Already sat six points adrift of breaking into the top-half, Motherwell have also endured a nightmare run of form on home soil. Including back-to-back 2-1 losses against Celtic and Aberdeen, Hammell’s men have lost each of their previous five showdowns at Fir Park.
As for the visitors, marking their return from the winter break last weekend with a 3-1 loss away at Hearts, Kilmarnock are enduring their own extended rut. Although Derek McInnes’ side might have entered the World Cup’s interval with a much-needed win at home against Hibernian, it appears that was just a minor boost for the former Aberdeen boss. Holding just a three-point buffer from slipping to the foot of the Premiership table, the Blues have lost four of their previous five top-flight outings. With that run highlighted by a 4-0 drumming at the hands of Dundee United on November 9th, they should also be worried by their last meeting against Friday’s hosts. When the two sides last faced off back in August, Kilmarnock were hit with a 2-1 defeat at Fir Park. Likewise, it should also be noted, with four of their last five showdowns finishing with over 1.5 goals, we’re backing a similar outcome here.
