Two sides who find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the Premiership table, Rangers will make the trip to a struggling Motherwell on Christmas Eve.
Starting with the hosts, while Motherwell might have opened up the 2023/24 campaign with a real flurry, the Steelmen find themselves at the heart of a major Premiership struggle. Last seen putting in another toothless performance as they eventually had to settle for a 0-0 stalemate away at St. Mirren, it appears there is mounting pressure on Stuart Kettlewell’s shoulders. Opening December with a woeful 3-0 drumming at the hands of Ross County, the Lanarkshire-based outfit have remarkably failed to win any of their previous 14 straight appearances across all competitions. With that woeful run of form stemming all the way back to September 3rd, Motherwell have also shown some rather glaring issues on home soil. Including an action-packed 4-2 defeat against Aberdeen last month, the Christmas Eve hosts have failed to muster a single victory at Fir Park since snatching a 2-1 win against Kilmarnock on August 26th.
As for the visitors, only continuing to shine since they appointed Philippe Clement back in October, Rangers are enjoying a stunning purple patch. Knowing that they can officially climb to the top of the Premiership table with a victory on Christmas Eve, the Blues are riding a major wave of momentum. Crowned League Cup champions on December 17th as they secured a 1-0 victory against Aberdeen at Hampden, the one-time Monaco boss has seen his high-flying squad win all of their previous six appearances across all competitions. Likewise, punching a Europa League knockout stage ticket on December 14th as they clinched a famous 3-2 victory away at Spanish giants Real Betis, Rangers will certainly be smelling the chance to make another statement on Sunday lunchtime. Picking up a 1-0 win when they last met Motherwell on Premiership duties back on September 24th, it is hard to see anything other than a similar outcome this weekend.
