Two sides who find themselves at the heart of a Ligue 1 relegation scrap, Nantes will welcome Le Havre to the Stade de la Beaujoire on Sunday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Nantes might have collected seven points from their opening three Ligue 1 appearances, the Canaries have come crashing back down to earth. Last seen heading into November’s international break with an action-packed 3-2 loss away at Lens, Antoine Kombouare’s men appear destined for another relegation scrap this season. Marking their return from the fortnight interval with just their goal difference keeping them outside the bottom-three, the former Toulouse boss has seen his downbeat squad lose each of their last three Ligue 1 appearances by an aggregate score of 8-4. Signing off October with a routine 3-1 defeat against Strasbourg, Nantes are also without a single win from any of their last eight consecutive outings. With that rut stemming all the way back to a 3-1 victory away at Montpellier on August 31st, Sunday’s hosts have shown some glaring defensive issues. In fact, Kombouare’s side have already shipped 17 Ligue 1 goals so far this season.
As for the visitors, making an immediate return to losing ways last time out as they suffered a 3-0 drumming at home against Reims, Le Havre have a real battle on their hands this year. Marking their return from November’s international break scrapping it out in the relegation zone, Didier Digard’s men have lost seven of their previous eight Ligue 1 appearances. With that extended crisis stemming all the way back to a 3-1 victory against Auxerre on September 1st, Sunday’s guests have also shown their own respective defensive struggles. Falling to a 4-0 defeat against Lyon last month, the Normandy-based outfit have conceded 23 goals in their first 11 Ligue 1 appearances. Holding the second-worst defensive tally among France’s elite, Le Havre face what appears to be a must-win showdown this weekend. It should also be highlighted, Digard’s side have lost all of their last four showdowns away from the Stade Oceane by an aggregate score of 8-1.
