Competition: Ligue 1

Market: Marseille win

Odds: 4/5 @ Pribet

Hoping to secure back-to-back Ligue 1 victories on Friday night and make another statement, Marseille will travel to the Stade de la Beaujoire when they meet Nantes.

Starting with the hosts, firmly at the heart of another Ligue 1 relegation scrap for large spells of last season, Nantes were simply hoping for a far smoother campaign this time around. However, last seen suffering a woeful second-half collapse at home against Monaco and eventually having to settle for a 3-3 draw at the Stade de la Beaujoire, the Canaries have had little to cheer about since opening the new season. Getting proceedings underway on August 13th as they slumped to a 2-1 loss at home against Toulouse, Pierre Aristouy’s side have mustered just a single point from any of their first three Ligue 1 showdowns. In fact, singing off their pre-season preparations with a routine 2-0 friendly defeat at the hands of Bundesliga outfit Koln, Nantes have claimed just one win from any of their previous eight appearances. Really gaining a recent reputation for their continued defensive issues and already shipping seven goals in their opening three top-flight battles, Aristouy’s men should face another tricky challenge this weekend.

As for the visitors, while Marseille might have suffered shock Champions League qualifying heartbreak at the hands of Panathinaikos on August 15th, Les Phoceens have opened the 2023/24 campaign in the midst of an early flurry. Gaining plenty of praise last season as they secured a bronze medal finish among France’s elite, Marcelino’s side have collected seven points from their first three Ligue 1 showdowns. Last seen putting in another rugged display as they landed a 2-0 victory at home against Brest, the former Athletic Bilbao boss will be calling on his squad to make another statement here. Although Marseille might have shown some extended issues on the road last season, they will be excited by a rampant record against Friday’s hosts. Including a 2-0 victory when the two sides last met back on February 1st, Marcelino’s men have won each of their last four straight meetings by an aggregate score of 8-3. Two sides who are expected to be battling it out at opposite ends of the Ligue 1 table this season, we are backing an away victory here.
