In what could prove to be another action-packed MLS showdown in the early hours of Sunday, New England will welcome Orlando to the Gillette Stadium.
Starting with the hosts, making a thumping return to winning ways last weekend as they breezed their way to a 3-1 romp at home against Inter Miami, New England find themselves tipped as a leading contender to clinch a play-off spot in 2023. Drawing a line under their extended six-match blip last time out, the Revs are now trying to find some much-needed stability. Signing off May with back-to-back 3-3 draws against Chicago and Atlanta, Bruce Arena still has a headache over his side’s extended issues at the back. Including a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Philadelphia last month, Sunday’s hosts have recorded just a pair of clean sheets from any of their last 12 domestic appearances across all competitions – a run that stems back to April 8th. With a growing reputation for their lively outcomes, it should be highlighted that five of New England’s last six showdowns at the Gillette Stadium have finished with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, while Orlando might have shown a host of inconsistencies when opening the 2023 campaign, the Lions have come roaring back in some style. Skyrocketing their way up the Eastern Conference and sat firmly in pole position to claim another play-off ticket this season, Oscar Pareja’s men are now in the midst of a six-match domestic unbeaten flurry – a run that stems back to May 9th. Opening June with a stunning performance as they clinched a 3-0 romp away at the New York Red Bulls, the Florida-based outfit have certainly found a major clinical edge in the final third. On a run that is highlighted by a 3-1 victory away at Inter Miami last month, Orlando are averaging a pair of strikes on their recent six-match unbeaten run. With nine of the previous 10 meetings between Sunday’s opponents finishing with both teams getting on the scoresheet, we are expecting what should be another enjoyable affair from the Gillette Stadium here.
