Competition: MLS
Market: Cincinnati double chance
Odds: 7/10 @ BetUS
Looking to extend on their recent purple patch in midweek, a high-flying Cincinnati will make the trip to Yankee Stadium when they meet a struggling New York City.
Starting with the hosts, while New York might have breezed their way to a bronze medal finish in the Eastern Conference last season, Nick Cushing’s side have drastically failed to keep up a similar level this time around. Last seen over the weekend putting in another nightmare display as they slumped to a routine 3-1 loss at home against Philadelphia, the Pigeons have come under a huge amount of scrutiny since opening the 2023 campaign. Sat outside the play-off places and facing what appears to be a real uphill struggle, the Blues have failed to win any of their last seven straight domestic appearances across all competitions – a run that stems back to April 22nd. Likewise, crashing out of the US Open Cup earlier in the month after suffering a 1-0 loss away at Cincinnati, Cushing’s downbeat squad could face another stern examination here.
As for the visitors, although NYCFC might find themselves in the midst of an extended rut, Cincinnati are enjoying what has become a stellar purple patch. Putting in an eye-catching display last weekend as they claimed a gritty 1-0 victory away at Colorado, Pat Noonan’s side are remarkably unbeaten in each of their last nine straight domestic appearances across all competitions. Likewise, picking up eight victories on that dominant spell, the Garys are riding what has been quite the wave of momentum. Seen as a standout pick to be crowned Eastern Conference champions in 2023, the former Philadelphia coach should also be excited by his most recent meeting against Thursday’s opponents. Extending on their US Open Cup adventure when they welcomed New York to town on May 10th, Cincinnati should be smelling the chance to spring another upset at Yankee Stadium. Given the recent gulf in class, we are backing an away double chance.
