Competition: MLS
Market: Cincinnati double chance
Odds: 11/10 @ 888sport
Looking to cause an upset on their travels in midweek, Cincinnati will make the trip to a struggling New York City in the early hours of Thursday.
Starting with the hosts, while New York might find themselves still leading the chase to claim a Final Series spot this season, the MLS giants are in the midst of a hugely worrying run of form. Last seen over the weekend putting in another nightmare display as they were blown away thanks to a 3-0 drumming away at New England, interim boss Nick Cushing does find some growing pressure on his shoulders. With it looking like their 2-0 victory against Chicago on August 21st was just a minor boost, NYCFC have lost each of their last three MLS outings on the spin. Likewise, it should also be noted, on a run that stems all the way back to the end of July, Thursday’s hosts have lost six of their previous seven contests. Showing some real problems at the back, New York should be in for a tough test here.
As for the visitors, drawing a line under their three-match stalemate run last weekend, Cincinnati are enjoying an eye-catching run of form. Last seen picking up a deserved 2-0 victory at home against Charlotte, Pat Noonan’s side have skyrocketed their way up the Eastern Conference table. Now with just their goal difference keeping them outside the Final Series spots, the Lions are unbeaten in each of their previous seven MLS outings. Likewise, it should also be noted, the Ohio-based outfit have lost just one of their last 14 straight outings, a run that stems all the way back to May 28th. Although Cincinnati might be tipped as a real underdog in midweek, Noonan’s side could be smelling the chance to spring an upset on the road. Playing out a thrilling 4-4 draw when they last faced off against NYCFC three months ago, we’re backing an away double chance here.
