Competition: MLS
Market: Montreal double chance
Odds: 6/5 @ BetUS
Looking to extend on their recent purple patch and spring an upset on the road, Montreal will make the trip to a struggling New York City in the early hours of Thursday.
Starting with the hosts, watching their Leagues Cup adventure come to an abrupt end following a 1-0 loss at the hands of bitter local rivals New York Red Bulls on August 4th, NYCFC are in the midst of a public struggle. Continuing to show a string of issues on either side of the month interval, Nick Cushing’s men were last seen over the weekend putting in another worrying display. Eventually slumping to a 3-0 drumming against Cincinnati, the Blues are battling it out at the foot of the Eastern Conference standings and facing a major uphill battle. Opening Thursday’s showdown sat six points adrift of breaking into the play-off places, New York City have lost five of their last six appearances across all formats. Heading into the Leagues Cup break with a 2-1 loss away at Philadelphia, Cushing’s struggling squad have also gained a reputation for their extended issues in the final third. It should be noted, the midweek hosts are without a goal in any of their previous three straight defeats.
As for the visitors, although Montreal might have failed to lay down much of a marker during their Leagues Cup adventure last month, Hernan Losada’s men are enjoying a major MLS flurry. Putting in another rugged display over the weekend as they clinched a 1-0 victory at home against New England, the Impact will certainly be smelling the chance to spring another upset here. Marking their return from the month interval with an action-packed 3-2 win away at Toronto, the midweek guests have now won each of their last three MLS appearances. Heading into the break with an eye-catching 2-0 victory against Charlotte on July 16th, it appears that the mood in Montreal’s camp is at a continued high. Finding a recent clinical edge in the final third and notching six strikes on their three-match winning run, Losada’s side also find themselves sat in pole position to claim a play-off ticket in 2023. With their sights now firmly set on breaking into the top-seven, we are backing an away double chance in the early hours of Thursday.
